Higher Aim, a burgeoning commercial resource for homeschooling parents, offers a unit of study on the Supreme Court and an audio tape of music set in contemporary Christian style. The siteís developer, Laurie Petrisin, is a certified teacher and a homeschooling mom. She writes songs, poetry and short stories in addition to curriculum materials. Visit the site, if only for the visually pleasing browsing and welcoming atmosphere. The Virtual Field Trip Site, a classy answer to the proverbial homeschoolers question, ìWhere can I find a good field trip?î Take your students on a virtual field trip ó from beaches and bogs to volcanoes, from glaciers to rain forests, and everywhere in between. With no transportation costs! Along with the trip you get lesson plans with vocabulary, learning concepts, objectives and links to additional related lesson plans and informational sites. Tramline, the developer of the site, deserves a ìhigh fiveî for harnessing technology to its best use.
ArtsEdNet, an art museum online ó complete with lesson plans and student art. You can take your students on a tour of ìThe Gettyî in Los Angeles. The Getty Education Institute for the Arts created something of value for all educators, not just homeschoolers. The virtual tour includes more art than hangs in their gallery and includes art from students of all ages, kindergarten on up. The site provides lesson plans and curriculum ideas, along with a host of other services. You wil enjoy it as much as your students. The Getty Education Institute for the Arts, through ArtsEdNet, makes a significant contribution in the spirit of pure education. They deserve a standing ovation!
Education Week on the Web is a comprehensive resource for all educators. The site presents an online version of the newspaper and Teacher Magazine, as well as many other sources of indformation.
